Sorpresa
In a little zoo in the village of Tepoztlan Don Pedrito Cruz and me used to talk in front of the giraffe’s cage... muchas muchas veces I spent time listening to this 78 years old Cuban man stories, and all of his tales were just difficult to believe. Later on he became my welding sculpture mentor.
I wish i would have a sound record machine and register Don Pedritos odyssey trying to build an iron boat to scape from cuba, or when he met “El Che guevara” and “camilo cienfuegos,” or when he had to hide a cow under his bed… what? Of course the cow was death, it was forbidden to kill your own cow with out the government’s consent, even if you were dying of starvation.
I also remember when i had the chance to talk with the 102 year-old shrugged faced “Don Aureliano” a wood sculpture, the oldest man I have ever met, his voice tune was unique, only five teeth left!
After an internship that I did in KPFA radio, during the training, I had to interview attorneys, politicians, activists, police sheriffs, workers on strikes, scientific, doctors, university professors, etc. So, finally I found out how can I share this wonderful skill and nourish you with talks, discourses, interviews and stories, and this is going to take me time, since I really don't know what or who I’m going to find in the corner of my life. I don’t pretend to only look for those in political power or bore you with endless artistic stories, I also do like the simple word of a chivalrous man whose work is to repair shoes, or an african-american little girl which name is Destiny who happens to be my neighbor. Will I interview President Obama or some famous light of brain narcotraficante like… (I better don't mention his name)? I don’t know, because this is what the “sopresa” is about, to let the “good chance come look for me” but I know that sometimes we need to go and look for the “good chance to come.”
I want this website to be the coziest possible, something hmm! Without the cold and isolated part that means to be part of a “virtual community.” Right now the people that follow me or read me or watch my art the most part of them are my family and dearest closest wonderful friends, but if by randomly mistake you fall into this warm spicy site and you are interested in something that I do, like one of my interviews to go out in some weird strange unknown underground radio, please hit me back and let me hear you, I like to read all kind of point of views, don't worry if you are a cruel bloody raucous fastilarian terrorist, I’m still interested in your atrocity, catastrophe, evildoing tomfoolery opinion.
